General Information

Scoil Mhuire is a Catholic School under the patronage of the Bishop of Clogher.

Scoil Mhuire is a rural co-educational school situated approximately 10 km south of Monaghan town. It is located just off the N2. We currently serve the local village and the surrounding rural community. Due to its ideal location, the village has seen much growth over recent years with many families moving into the area.

The existing school comprises two buildings, one built in 1961 and the other in 1985 with a very significant extension completed in 2020 and again in 2021. Over the last number of years the Board of Management has been very proactive in maintaining and upgrading the buildings and have availed of a number of Summer Works Grants. These projects included upgrading of the heating system, plumbing, replacement of single glazed windows, installation of cavity wall insulation and upgrade of electrical works to a very high specification. The school playgrounds have also been upgraded and an outdoor play ground has also been developed on the school grounds.

At present we have a teaching staff of 12 (see staff list). We have 6 mainstream class teachers, 3 special class teachers for pupils diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum and 2 special education teachers. We also have a secretary, 10 special needs assistants and a cleaner / caretaker.

Our facilities consist of 6 mainstream classrooms, 3 special classrooms with ancillary rooms, 2 special education rooms, a multi-sensory room, a computer room, a meeting room, a kitchen,  two offices, and a staff room. Our main hall provides a venue for school celebrations, assembly and also games and PE lessons. We have playground areas designated to different class groupings and an outdoor playground.

There are currently 194 pupils on roll.
